Simple Earth Branding

For a recent project I had to create a logo design for an organic food company. I decided to make some prints using paint and food to make into an image. I manipulated the original colours of the prints into the colours to earth which I feel connects with the brand name well. I think make the prints into images such as a heart, earth and a footprint.

My first design which I don't think worked as well as it could.

Below are my finished designs where I have used three different images. The typeface that I have decided to use is organic which works well with the brand.

De Beers Diamonds are Forever

The aim of the recent campaign that I worked on was to come up with a way to get people to buy diamonds for their loved ones. Using different advertising techniques I came up with the idea that people are buying their partners the wrong stuff to show how much they love them. The way that I have shown this is by showing something that they care about being wrecked because they got their partner flowers or chocolates. I used the slogan 'He didn't think diamonds were forever' which I then changed to 'He got forever wrong'.

Below are some stamps and a magazine spread.

Live Projects

Over the course of the two years I have had the chance to take part in some live projects working with clients what has helped me to gain some real life experience.

Some of the live projects that I have taken part in include:

Pageturner - Each year the Turner Contemporary in Margate hold a competition where student and tutors can enter their work to win prizes and to be displayed in the Turner. In the first year I got short listed for my entry. The theme for that year was courage and determination where I designed a typographic Olympic torch. Because I got shortlisted I was invited to a evening where the prizes were awarded and we got to look at other peoples work.

Paperchase - As part of my Christmas project we got to work with the card company Paperchase to design a Christmas card that would be sold in their stores across the country. One of my designs won. Paperchase paid me £100 and got sold in all the stores over the 2012 Christmas period.

Peace One Day - The charity Peace One Day approached us to design some posters to promote the day. Our work got displayed in Canterbury Cathedral what people could come and view.

Olympic Poster design - We got an opportunity to take part in designing a poster to promote the Olympics in 2012. Someone came to our college where we got to interact and create some mind maps to come up with ideas to think out of the box to promote the 2012 London Olympics. The winner got to go up to London to take part in some work shops with professional designers.

Wates - The construction company Wates approached us to design some posters to advertise health and safety on their sites. I decided to design a poster to advertise eating healthy food.

John Dent - John Dent the deputy principle of Canterbury College approached a few of us to create some posters to try and get teachers to inspire their students. I designed a information graphics poster with a mind map on a chalk board. I decided to do this type of poster because I thought that the chalkboard would bring back memories to the tutors and they would remember their teachers that inspired them. My final design will be displayed around the college next year. For my poster I received a £20 gift voucher for Next.

The Canterbury Festival - I got a chance to design a design that would go on the front of the Canterbury Festival brochure. My design did not get picked though.

I also got some commissions outside of the college to design a two posters for two different concerts. The first concert was a Christmas concert for the Central Band of the Royal British Legion. The second concert that I got to design for was the Gurkha Festival at Easter.
I also got to design a charity poster for a local panto.
I have recently been commissioned to create the poster for this years Central Band of the Royal British Legion concert.

Today i updated and refined my work that is going to go up at the end of year show. These are two pieces of my refined work.

Dover Castle

As part of my FMP I had to go and do some primary research. I had to visit Dover Castle because that was what I was advertising. The first time that i visited the castle was to meet the marketing manager. Meeting him helped me get an idea of my target audience. The next time that I visited the castle was to take some photographs. Taking the photographs helped me get a feel of the castle and an idea of what colours to use in my poster. Along with getting a feel for the castle i used some of my photography in my final designs.

These are some of the photographs that I took at Dover Castle.

FMP designs

I have just finished my final major project for my college course. For my project I re-designed some promotional material for Dover Castle. I got in touch with the marketing manager at the castle who gave me some constraints when creating the poster. I found it hard with the constraints but i managed to follow them.

This is my final poster that i designed for Dover Castle.

To protect the brand I had to place the logo onto a plain background. I got this feedback from the marketing manager after i emailed him my designs. I originally had the logo on the patterned background. I got my slogan once I had my basic design. My logo is inspired by the love heart in my design. The target audience that it meets is teenage culture seekers.

These are some of the extra material that I created. This includes a membership card, tickets and flyers.

Borough Market Posters

I was given a brief to create an advertising campaign for Borough Market. I visited the market and spoke to the head of public relations to get an idea of what they look for in their posters. I created two sets of posters. The first poster was more of a branded poster for local shoppers that i developed onto apparel and the second poster that i designed was targeted more to the tourists that visit the market. I created my own strap line 'From the crate to the plate' so that i could target shoppers within any time of poster what i think worked well.

Narrative images

I created these narrative images to narrate the play 'A midsummers night dream'. I decided to take a more contemporary approach to my design using a mixture of different techniques including drawing and digital. I created my designs in both photoshop and illustrator. I wanted to include the book into my  image so i scanned in the page that the quote is from and used it as my background i also took the quote out of the page and enlarged it what i think works well. My favourite narrative image is the bear as i think it is cute and charming.
